RAINBOW SMOKE, The Netherlands 2007
Proposal for a temporary installation in the former textile factory in Enschede

General description

The aim of the project is to revive and play with industrial history and tradition of Enschede. For me it is the most significant and interesting feature of this town. One of the most visible monuments is the chimney which is also the focal point in the central area. I hope it would be attractive and entertaining for audiences to make it alive and… colourful. Making the past alive in a new contemporary form can remind the people of the history of their town.

Method:

Letting out a colourful (rainbow colours) smoke from the chimney

At daylight: pyrotechnical effect (smoke candles)

In darkness: white smoke from a smoke generator illuminated with changing lights colorful floodlights

Elements of the project:

At daylight:

• smoke candles

• temporary shelf installed inside the upper part of the chimney

In darkness:

• smoke candles or smoke generator

• temporary shelf installed inside the upper part of the chimney

• colourful floodlights on the top of the chimney to illuminate the smoke + illumination of the whole chimney
